Lishe Plus Model

TAMA implements the Lishe Plus Model to promote the adoption of nutrient-dense foods among maternal mothers, children, and the elderly by integrating technology, grassroots mobilization, and community health systems. Through this model, TAMA partners with trained community health workers across the country to register and engage women via smartphones or feature phones. Women are enrolled on the TAMA_Lishe App or subscribed through USSD services, enabling real-time delivery of nutrition education, dietary advice, and access to locally available fortified foods.

The model addresses the critical gap in nutrition knowledge and access, especially in rural and low-income communities. By leveraging mobile technology, Lishe Plus reaches thousands of households regardless of internet access or literacy levels. Women receive timely messages during pregnancy, early childhood, and eldercare, helping to reduce malnutrition-related deaths and improve health outcomes.

The impact is already visible: increased demand for nutrient-dense foods, improved feeding practices, and strengthened links between maternal women and local food markets for healthier and affordable food options. With social impact funding, TAMA can scale this model nationwide or even beyond Tanzania, train more health workers, digitize local nutrition data, and reach over one million vulnerable individuals. Support from funders is vital to expand this life-saving, tech-enabled solution for national food and nutrition security.
